funeral-wreaths: The Three Dead Kings; or, The Three Living and the Three Dead, is a scene from medieval memento mori art and the subject of a Middle English poem by John Audelay. It tells of a duke, a count and a prince who go hunting in a forest and stumble upon three corpses. The skeletons come to life and chastise the three noblemen for their worldly, decadent ways: “Such as I was you are, and such as I am you will be. Wealth, honor and power are of no value at the hour of your death.”
